Muay Thai On-Ramp Course
Hi team ,
One of the best things about Muay Thai is that you can do almost anything with it.
Fitness, real-world proven self-defense, competition, combat sports, cross-training, or simply learning a skill and getting better at it. Muay Thai covers a lot of bases.
The downside is that, especially when you’re new, it can sometimes be hard to know where to start or what you should actually be focusing on.
That is exactly why we’ve always put a lot of emphasis on the foundations, and now we’re taking that a step further with our Muay Thai On-Ramp Course.
This isn’t a separate program. You’ll still be training in your regular classes and working on whatever is being taught. The On-Ramp simply gives everyone a common set of fundamentals that we want you to understand and be able to demonstrate.
And that will look different depending on your experience.
If you’ve been training for two years, we’re going to expect a deeper level of understanding. Where is your base when you jab? Can you kick effectively from that position? Can you respond both offensively and defensively? Do you understand why you’re doing what you’re doing?
If you’re newer, the focus is more on understanding the language of the class, the basic terminology, how to throw the fundamental strikes properly, and how to perform the basic offensive and defensive movements.
There are a lot of layers to Muay Thai. Nobody is expected to master everything overnight. The goal is simply to make sure we’re all working from the same foundation.
We’re planning our first evaluation for the last week of October, which gives us plenty of time to work through everything together.
Going forward, this On-Ramp material will also become the standard intake curriculum for new students.
For anyone interested in eventually becoming part of the instructor program and learning how to coach, understanding and being able to teach this material will also be the first step.
Any questions, I’m always available.
Otherwise, we’ll see you in the academy.
Thanks
Coaches
